Sideboards, Chiffoniers, Parlour Cabinets, Credenza, Enfilades and Dumb Waiters
An antique sideboard is the perfect complement to your dining room setting.
Sideboards were originally built in the Victorian and Edwardian periods in a variety of woods such as oak or walnut, though many beautiful and elaborately carved and decorated sideboards are built from cedar, mahogany, blackwood etc. Glebe Antiques has a selection of Art Deco and Art Nouveau amongst our range of antique sideboards.
Antique sideboards were a development from the side or serving table gradually evolving with the fashions of the day to include pedestal cupboards for storage and eventually the space between was fully enclosed to create more storage for crockery, a drawer or two for cutlery and serving utensils, sometimes a lead-lined area for the storage of wine bottles and also a place to store table linens.
